CA Prop. No. 8

Sun Aug 31, 2008, 12:00 AM
Voting "Yes" on CA-8 will result in the following changes to the California Constitution.

Article I, Section 7.5 will be amended to read "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in the state of California."

Why vote "Yes"?

* Some people vote yes because they are doing what their church tells them to do.
* Some people vote yes because they think they're protecting marriage from the evil gay people who are out to get them.

Why vote "No"?

* Some people vote no because they don't want to live in a country ruled by the church (which is why America was created).
* Some people vote no because they are homophobic (which is a fear of one's own latent homosexuality).
* Some people vote no because it's what this country was founded on. "All are created equal with inalienable rights, such as the the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
* Some vote no because they don't want their life to be restricted by an overbearing group of religious fanatics
* Some vote no because they realize that GBLT peoples are actually human, and they are created equal too.
* Some vote no because they understand that if this doesn't pass, it's not going to affect their religion.

150 years ago, the church was an avid supporter of slavery....
100 years ago, the church was not in support of woman's rights....
50 years ago, the church was against interracial marriage....
If you haven't noticed yet, these are all things that the church was in support of that were unconstitutional, and immoral... and inevitably were later accepted after the rest of the world showed that sometimes, just because you put God's name on your tax-exemption paperwork, you can still be wrong.

today, the church is against same-sex marriage....
For those reading this that aren't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, there is a trend. The church is against something, and it must be dragged kicking and screaming towards the morality that it so claims (and quite ironically) to hold a monopoly on.
